Message from the Headteacher
This spooky halloween image is from our gardening club. Grown from seeds by the group, these pumpkins have now been sold to the highest staff bidder. Great to see the school gardening efforts coming to fruition.
This week we congratulate the second cohort of students who have successfully completed their certificate in animal handling at Corn Close Care Farm! It has been great to see our students thrive and embrace this unique opportunity to learn and connect with animals. Thank you to Corn Close Care Farm who have enabled this course.
This week, we were pleased to welcome The Harrogate Butcher to our school. He conducted a hands-on session with our GCSE students, demonstrating how to fillet chicken safely while teaching essential knife skills. This practical experience not only enhances our students’ culinary knowledge but also instills important safety practices in the kitchen.
As we approach the half term break, we want to remind parents that our Year 11 students will have their mock exams following the break. We encourage students to prepare effectively, make use of the following study tips that teachers have made students aware of and use the school intranet as there are loads of useful resources on there to help:
• Active Recall: Test your knowledge from memory. Write down everything you remember about a topic, then check against your notes.
• Create Personalised Resources: Develop study aids such as mind maps, flashcards, or diagrams to help you retain information in the way that is best for you.
• Practice Different Question Formats: Familiarise yourself with a variety of questions to make sure you are well-prepared.
• Time Management: Avoid cramming! Spread your revision over time.
• Take Breaks: Regular breaks and relaxation are crucial for improving focus and information retention.
• Healthy Lifestyle: Ensure you get plenty of sleep, eat balanced meals and stay hydrated.
• Minimise Distractions: Set up a dedicated study space free from interruptions, including your phone, to enhance concentration.
As we move into the half term, we hope you take the time to enjoy the beautiful autumn colours and hopefully some sunshine! Remember the clocks go back this weekend and mornings will be darker. Please make sure students who cycle to school have lights on their bikes and wear helmets. Student safety is paramount.
Whether you’re studying or relaxing, make the most of this well-deserved break. Happy half term!
