National Reading Day is celebrated annually today, January 23rd. This date is chosen to encourage people to go into the new year with a focus on literacy and to build momentum for their reading habits that can shape the rest of the year. As you know, in our school, literacy is incredibly important and we would like to thank our literacy lead Mrs Rees for all she does to keep this focus on literacy paramount at Harrogate High School, driving our DEAR programme, Word of the Week and literacy strategy. Themes often link to world events and curriculum themes and this term DEAR texts have aligned with the upcoming Holocaust Memorial Day.
In school this week, we were really pleased to welcome representatives from NYCC into school to work with our students on a Town Investment Plan workshop. The session gave students a valuable opportunity to explore how investment decisions are made and to share their ideas about the future of their local area. They approached the workshop thoughtfully and contributed with maturity and insight, representing the school extremely well. Thank you to Mr Morrison for coordinating this event, to the students who took part and to NYCC for inviting our students to share their voice.
Thank you, as always, for your continued support.
Mr Gill
Head of Academy
